“Founded in 1969, Hurst has a long history of publishing books about the Baltic states. The English translation of Georg von Rauch’s The History of the Baltic States (1974), for example, filled a significant gap in Western scholarship, though Lithuanians received noticeably less attention than Estonians and Latvians (and Baltic Germans). As Richard Butterwick notes in his Lithuania: A History – Lithuania requires a different chronological frame than ‘volumes about Latvia and Estonia, which focus chiefly on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries’ (12)…“
